Top Nine John Sterling Home Run Calls

By Jack Maxwell

Full disclosure: I am probably the biggest John Sterling fan out there. For me, there's not a more entertaining baseball announcer on the radio. And many of our fans on Facebook agree. Thanks to their contributions, we have compiled the Top 9 John Sterling Home Run Calls. Don't agree with the list? Leave your comments below.

  • HINSKE WITH YOUR BEST SHOT!
Eric Hinske may have only been a Yankee for a cup of coffee, but his stay with the team resulted in the amazing revelation that John Sterling has Pat Benatar on his iPod. Great call!

Trish Taylor writes on our FB wall: "ahhhhhhh Hinske with your best shot" used to make me laugh"
  • BERN, BABY BERN!
Sterling showed off his knowledge of 1970's disco when creating this home run call for Bernie Williams. Do you think he's as creative with his disco moves on the dance floor? I'm willing to bet he is.
  • IT'S A THRILLA BY GODZILLA!
Sayonara and Godzilla, the two marks of Japanese culture that every American is familiar with. Perfect balance of Sterling's knowledge of a foreign culture and humor.

Jorge Canas J.r. writes on our FB wall: John Sterling is by far one of the best announcers. I love the "it's a thrilla!!! By Godzilla!!!"
  • AN A-BOMB, FROM A-ROD
Maybe it's because listeners hear it more often than the others, but there's something about this call that sets it apart from the rest. CHECK IT OUT

Al Harrison writes on our FB wall: "An A-Bomb from A-Rod" is the classic, Sterling's best, but still love to hear another Holy cow from the Scooter!
  • JORGY JUICED ONE!
Clearly "Jorgy Juiced One" is not as exciting to say as "Hip-Hip, Jorge," but the alliteration certainly makes it a fun listen.
  • EL COMEDULCE! BOBBY ABREU IS AS SWEET AS CANDY!
I'm not quite sure what it means, but boy, I love saying it. In fact, I even named my dog Comedulce no lie!
  • THE GIAMBINO!
Perhaps the greatest thing to come of Giambi's run with the Yanks.

Frank Sullo writes on our FB wall: The bamtino call from the O1 WS was classic. I also kinda liked the Giambino. Its the melky way was cool. I think I liked most the thrilla by godzilla tho.
  • YOU'RE ON THE MARK, TEIXEIRA!
Get it? It's his name and it's a correct description of the play. Simply brilliant. TAKE A LISTEN

Jen Cotter writes on our FB wall: I love when he says, "it's a tex message! oh you're on the mark, teixeira!" :)
  • ROBBIE CANO, DONTCHA KNOW!
Whenever in doubt, go with a rhyme. Rhymes never fail. I think my favorite part is the long "n" sound in between Cano and dontcha: "Robbie Cano nnnnnnn dontcha know!"
