In 22 at-bats this spring, Mateo is hitting .136 with a home run, double, and two RBI.
The speedy shortstop and second baseman ranks fifth in the Yankees organization, and 47th among all MLB prospects, per MLB.com, and has been one of New York's most highly regarded young farmhands since signing with the team in 2012 at the age of 17.
In 2016, with the Tampa Yankees, Mateo slashed .254/.306/.379 with eight homers, 47 RBI, and 36 stolen bases. In 2015, Mateo led all minor leaguers with 82 stolen bases on the year, and so far he's successfully swiped 182 bags in 226 career attempts.
