75 years ago on July 4, 1939, Lou Gehrig delivered one of the most famous addresses in baseball history. The Yankees began baseball's effort to honor his memory on Wednesday with a special ceremony at Yankee Stadium.

U.S. Navy Lt. Commander Matthew Bellina, recently diagnosed with ALS, was among those honored, as Major League Baseball kicks off its effort to raise money and awareness to fight the insidious disease that ultimately took the life of the great Yankee.
