The New York Yankees scouted Philadelphia Phillies outfielder John Mayberry Jr. in a recent series against the Atlanta Braves, according to Jim Salisbury of Comcast Sportsnet,.

With the Phillies owning the seventh worst record in baseball, it might be time to make some moves to get a fresher and younger lineup in Philadelphia, which would make Mayberry expendable and a very attractive backup first base option or corner outfielder in New York.

Mayberry, 30, has had an up and down career since entering the league in 2009. The right-handed bat broke out in 2011 with the Phillies in a bench role and ended season with a batting average of .273 with 15 HR and 49 RBI. Mayberry struggled in 2012 and 2013, but has seemed to find his way again in 2014, batting .256 with 5 HR and 19 RBI.
