CC Sabathia throws 25-pitch bullpen session

He is scheduled for another bullpen session Wednesday in which he will work with all of his pitches, and his status will be reevaluated after that outing.
Sabathia, who has been out since May 11th because of discomfort in his right knee, received a stem cell injection from Dr. James Andrews late last month to help fix degenerative changes in the knee. The Yankees were told if the injection worked, the timeline for Sabathia's comeback would be roughly six weeks, and the team hopes to have him back in the rotation around the All-Star break.
The quick return of Sabathia, who is 3-4 with a 5.28 ERA in eight starts this season, would be a huge boost to the Yankees rotation, which currently sees three of its original five on the disabled list; Ivan Nova is out for the year after having Tommy John surgery, and Michael Pineda (strained back muscle) is expected to play catch this weekend but will not be back until at least mid-July.
