Nine Yankees minor leaguers selected to All-Star teams
Pitcher Daniel Camarena, outfielder Jake Cave and infielders Dante Bichette Jr., Eric Jagielo and Zach Wilson will represent Single-A Tampa in the 53rd Florida State League All-Star Game, to be played at McKechnie Field in Bradenton, Fla., on Saturday, June 14.
Representing Single-A Charleston at the 55th South Atlantic League All-Star Game will be infielder Mike Ford, outfielder Aaron Judge and pitchers Brady Lail and Caleb Smith. The game will take place at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, N.C., on Tuesday, June 17.
Bichette, 21, was selected by the Yankees in Supplemental Round A of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft (51st overall). He is batting .276 (55-for-199) with a .366 on-base percentage this season, leading the team in runs scored (33), doubles (14), RBI (35) and walks (27). Bichette has also hit seven home runs in 56 games played.
Camarena, 21, has started 12 games for Tampa this season, going 4-3 with a 2.81 ERA (64.0IP, 20ER). Selected by the Yankees in the 20th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, the left-hander leads the club in innings pitched, is tied for the team lead in wins and ranks second in strikeouts (46), allowing one-or-fewer earned runs in eight of his 12 starts.
Cave, 21, was selected by the Yankees in the sixth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. He leads the team and is tied for third in the league in hits, batting .306 (74-for-242) with 29 runs scored, 12 doubles, four triples, two home runs and 16RBI in 57 games.
Jagielo, 22, was the Yankees' top selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft (26th overall). He shares the team lead in home runs (10) and ranks second in RBI (31), and in 42 games is batting .256 (40-for-156) with 23 runs scored, eight doubles and 19 walks. Jagielo was also named a 2013 All-Star in the New York-Penn League as a member of the Staten Island Yankees.
Wilson, 23, is batting .299 (47-for-157) with 19 runs scored, seven doubles, three triples, four home runs and 23RBI in 43 games with Tampa. He was selected in the 21st round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Arizona State University.
In the South Atlantic League All-Star Game, Ford, 21, was selected as the Southern Division's starting first baseman. Signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in July 2013, he is batting .302 (58-for-192) with 29 runs scored, nine doubles, eight home runs, 28RBI, 28 walks and a .400 on-base percentage in 54 games.
Joining Ford in the starting lineup will be Judge, 22, who was selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft (32nd overall). He leads the RiverDogs in runs scored (31), batting average (.315, 64-for-203), hits, doubles (11), RBI (37), walks (33) and games played (57), with a .413 on-base percentage and .507 slugging percentage.
Lail, 20, was selected by the Yankees in the 18th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. He has made 11 starts for the RiverDogs this season, going 7-2 with a 3.53 ERA (58.2IP, 23ER, 60K, 11BB) and leading the team in innings, wins and strikeouts.
Smith, 22, has also made 11 starts for the RiverDogs, going 4-4 with a 2.41 ERA (52.1IP, 14ER), 56 strikeouts and 20 walks. In his first two professional seasons, the left-hander has combined to go 5-6 with a 2.16 ERA (100.0IP, 24ER). He was selected by the Yankees in the 14th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Sam Houston State University.
