Major League Baseball officially reinstated Michael Pineda from suspension on Tuesday, and the New York Yankees immediately placed the right-hander on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 1 strain of the Teres major muscle in his right shoulder.

To replace him on the roster, the Yankees have reinstated infielder Brendan Ryan (back) from the 15-day DL.

Pineda first felt the shoulder strain while throwing a simulated game in Tampa last Tuesday, but the team was unable to disable him until he finished serving a 10-game suspension for having pine tar on his neck during his last start against the Red Sox. He was originally supposed to be eligible to return from suspension Monday, but because of last week's rainout in the Bronx, the Yankees did not play the final game of his 10-game ban until Monday night in Anaheim.

The right-hander, who is 2-2 with a 1.83 ERA in four starts this season, is expected to miss another three to four weeks because of the injury.

Ryan was shut down early in spring training because of a back injury, and has missed the entire season so far after suffering a pinched nerve in his back later in March. He began an official rehabilitation assignment on April 27, and was 8-for-25 with five walks in seven games between Class-A Advanced Tampa and Double-A Trenton.
