WFAN, WADO reach agreement to broadcast Yankees games in Spanish

NEW YORK- MARCH 25, 2014 -- CBS RADIO's WFAN-AM/FM, the nation's first and most listened to all-sports radio station, has reached a multi- year agreement with Univision Radio's WADO-AM to broadcast the regular season and post season New York Yankees baseball games in Spanish. All game broadcasts will be produced by WFAN, which is entering the first year of a long-term agreement with the Yankees to serve as the team's flagship radio broadcaster. WADO's first broadcast in Spanish will be the Yankees regular season opening game on Tuesday April 1 against the Houston Astros. Spanish play-by-play can be heard on 1280AM in the New York metropolitan area with commentary provided by Rickie Ricardo and Francisco Rivera.

A radio veteran of 33 years including 17 in New York, Ricardo spent the past seven years calling Philadelphia Phillies games and has also served as the Spanish language voice of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles. Additionally, he works as a radio host at CBS RADIO's Sportsradio 94WIP-FM in Philadelphia.
Since 1995, Rivera has been involved in baseball as a color commentator and play-by-play announcer, including calling Yankees games full-time on the radio since the 2005 season. A native of Morovis, Puerto Rico, Rivera began his communications career covering NBA basketball for WADO and was later one of the pioneers of the talk show "WADO Deportivo" (WADO Sports) where he worked until 2003.
