The New York Yankees announced Monday morning that LHP CC Sabathia has been shut down for the remainder of the season because of a Grade 2 strain of his left hamstring.

According to the team release, Sabathia suffered the injury – which will require a recovery time of approximately eight weeks – during Friday’s start against San Francisco, one that saw him earn the victory after pitching seven innings of one-run ball.

Sabathia finishes the season with a 14-13 record and a 4.78 ERA in 32 starts.

The Yankees have an off-day Monday, and although Joe Girardi declined to announce a set rotation for this week prior to Sunday’s game, he did intimate that Hiroki Kuroda would start Tuesday – meaning that Phil Hughes’ spot would be skipped and Sabathia would have been scheduled to make his final regular-season start on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium against Tampa Bay.
