After Mariano Rivera closed out the final game at the old Yankee Stadium and Derek Jeter gave the fans a farewell speech, it would have been only fitting if the Yankees’ first win in their new house was a direct result of the Captain and the Sandman, right?

Mission accomplished.

The Yankees actually lost their first official game at the current Yankee Stadium on April 16, but one night later, they were tied 5-5 with Cleveland in the eighth when Jeter hit a solo homer to give the Yankees the lead. In came Mo, and after allowing a pair of one-out singles, he struck out Grady Sizemore and Mark DeRosa to notch his third save of the year and the first of many at 1 E. 161st Street.

Just another day in the realm of the Yankees, really.
