The Atlanta Braves made a move to bolster their rotation depth on Friday, acquiring Freddy Garcia from the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations.

Garcia, 36, was 3-5 with a 5.77 ERA in 11 appearances (10 starts) for the Orioles in May and June, and was 8-3 with a 2.84 ERA in 13 starts for Triple-A Norfolk after accepting an outright assignment there.

He will be assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett for the time being.

The Braves did activate Paul Maholm from the disabled list this week, but their rotation is already without Tim Hudson (broken ankle) for the season, and Brandon Beachy, who has made five starts since returning from Tommy John surgery, was scratched from his scheduled start this weekend after undergoing an MRI on Wednesday, and he is reportedly set to see Dr. James Andrews on Monday.
