Daisuke Matsuzaka has asked for and been given his unconditional release by the Cleveland Indians, according to the Tribe Insider Twitter feed.

Matsuzaka originally signed with Cleveland in February, then was released and re-signed to a Minor League deal late in Spring Training. He spent the entire season with Triple-A Columbus, where he was 5-8 with a 3.92 ERA in 19 starts.

The 32-year-old righty started his final game for the Clippers Monday night, allowing five runs over four innings and taking the loss against Norfolk.

In his last Major League action, Matsuzaka was 1-7 with an 8.28 ERA in 11 starts for Boston last season, and was 50-37 with a 4.52 ERA in six seasons in Beantown. comments
