The Chicago Cubs have claimed outfielder Thomas Neal off waivers from the New York Yankees.

Neal, 25, was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Friday, when Curtis Granderson was removed from the 60-day DL. A 2013 International League All-Star, Neal hit .325 with two homers and 29 RBI in 72 games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, and he was 2-for-13 in four games over a pair of cameos with the Major League club as well.

To make room for Neal on their 40-man roster, the Cubs transferred reliever Rafael Dolis, who has been out since May 27 with a forearm strain, from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list; a corresponding move to accommodate Neal on Chicago’s 25-man roster does not have to be announced until he reports.
