Braves acquire LHP Scott Downs from Angels
Downs will team with Luis Avilan as the lefty side of an Atlanta bullpen that has lost two southpaw workhorses in Eric O'Flaherty and Jonny Venters this season. The 37-year-old was 2-3 with a 1.84 ERA in 43 games with the Angels, and he gad a streak of 29 scoreless appearances snapped in what was his final appearance with the Halos on Saturday.
He is the second reliever acquired from the Halos by Atlanta GM Frank Wren in the last calendar year, as the Braves also sent RHP Tommy Hanson to the Halos for Jordan Walden over the winter.
In return the Angels get Rasmus, who made three appearances with the Braves this season but has spent most of the year at Triple-A; the younger brother of Blue Jays outfielder Colby, Rasmus served as the closer at Gwinnett, going 3-1 with a 1.72 ERA and 14 saves and striking out 48 in 36.2 innings over 37 appearances.
