Report: Jermaine O'Neal to sign with Golden StateThe 6-foot-11 center is closing in on a deal to join the Warriors
Specific terms of the deal have not been released, but NBC Sports' Kurt Helin reports O'Neal is expected to sign a one-year deal to join a solid front court that includes Andrew Bogut, David Lee and soon-to-be-signed Andre Iguodala.
Now 34, O'Neal is a six-time NBA All-Star but has proven to be more productive in reserve role in recent years. He averaged 8.3 points in just under 19 minutes per game last season with the Phoenix Suns, missing several games due to an irregular heartbeat, and has career averages of 13.4 points and 7.6 rebounds over 17 seasons with the Blazers, Pacers, Raptors, Heat, Celtics, and Suns.
O'Neal resides in the Dallas area during the offseason and reportedly gave strong consideration to joining the Mavericks before ultimately choosing Golden State.
He might not be the only new face joining Iguodala and crew when the signing moratorium ends Wednesday, as ESPNNewYork.com reported that ex-Knick guard Toney Douglas, who averaged 7.5 points and 2.1 assists per game with the Kings and Rockets last season, agreed to terms with the Warriors on Tuesday as well.
