The NHL's wild coaching carousel could come to a stop with two coaches replacing each other on the same day.

On Friday, hours after the New York Rangers formally introduced ex-Vancouver Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault as their new ice boss, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press tweeted that former Rangers coach John Tortorella had been offered the Canucks' job, with a deal imminent.

Tortorella was fired as the Blueshirts' boss on May 29, days after the Boston Bruins bounced the Rangers in five games in the Eastern Conference semifinals. In five seasons on Broadway, Tortorella led the team to a 171-115-29 record and one Atlantic Division crown.

The Canucks have not commented on the situation, but according to Lawless, several sources have confirmed a deal is near.
