Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters on Thursday night that Andrew Bailey will be removed as the team's closer for the time being.

Bailey has blown three saves in his last five appearances, the latest a walkoff loss in Detroit Thursday night that saw him give up two runs without recording an out. He has an ERA of 15.75 in that span, with seven runs, five walks, and four home runs allowed in four innings pitched.

Prior to that streak, Bailey held a 1.47 ERA with 27 strikeouts, six walks and one blown save in 18 1/3 innings worth of work.

Farrell has not yet announced whom the Red Sox will use as their new ninth-inning man, although earlier this season when Bailey and Joel Hanrahan were hurt, the skipper tabbed righty Junichi Tazawa as the closer.
