Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Miley to manage International League in Triple-A All-Star game
On Thursday, Dave Miley was named as the manager for the International League squad in this year's Triple-A All-Star Game, which pits the best from the IL against the cream of the Pacific Coast League crop. This will be Miley's record-tying third managerial turn in the Game, as he also led the IL squad in 2002 (when he was with the Reds' affiliate in Louisville) and in 2008 as SWB's skipper.
Despite playing their entire 2012 schedule on the road, Miley led the then-SWB Yankees to their fifth IL North Division crown in six years last season, earning IL Manager of the Year and Baseball America Minor League Manager of the Year honors. This season, the newly-minted RailRiders are 32-39 through Wednesday.
He will also have one ex-Yankee on his staff, as current Charlotte Knights (White Sox) manager Joel Skinner will serve as one of the IL's coaches, along with Knights hitting coach Brandon Moore and Norfolk Tides (Orioles) athletic trainer Mark Shires.
Ex-Major League All-Star Brett Butler, who is now the skipper of the Arizona Diamondbacks' affiliate in Reno, Nevada, will helm the PCL team; last season, Butler led the Reno Aces to both the PCL title and Triple-A National Championship, topping Pawtucket in that latter one-game showdown.
The Triple-A All-Star Game will be held on July 17 in Reno.
