Tiger Woods announced Wednesday that a strain in his left elbow will prevent him from competing in any tournaments until the British Open.

During the U.S. Open this past weekend, Woods experienced noticeable discomfort in his elbow, which may have contributed to his 13-over-par performance, his worst in a major as a professional. Woods had the elbow examined upon returning home from Merion and doctors determined that he is suffering from a strain.

Woods has been advised to rest and undergo treatment, which led to the game's No. 1 golfer announcing that he will be unable to play the AT&T National at Congressional, which is scheduled for June 27-30.

Woods will be back in action July 18-21, when he goes for his fourth British Open and 15th major title at Murfield in Scotland.
