The Pittsburgh Penguins and Evgeni Malkin have agreed to an 8-year, $76 million contract extension that will keep the three-time Hart Trophy-winning forward in the Steel City through 2023.

Malkin, 26, led the NHL in points en route to his third MVP award in 2011-12, and he had nine goals and 24 assists in 31 games the lockout-shortened 2013 season – but was held without a point in the Eastern Conference Finals as the Penguins were swept by Boston.

In seven seasons in Pittsburgh, Malkin is a two-time scoring champion, and has 217 goals and 343 assists in 458 games.

The announcement of the deal comes one day after Pittsburgh signed head coach Dan Bylsma to a two-year contract extension through 2016.
