Mike Mussina to coach high school basketball

Former New York Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina has been named the new boys basketball coach at his high school alma mater.

Mussina will be paid a stipend of $4,170 and is tasked with turning around the Montoursville program which finished 5-17 this past season and hasn't reached the district playoffs since 2008.

A three sport star at Montoursville High School in Pennsylvania, Mussina finished with 1,382 points before graduating in 1987. He accepted a baseball scholarship at Stanford before breaking into Major League Baseball with the Baltimore Orioles in 1991. Since his retirement from baseball in 2008, Mussina has been coaching Little League baseball and junior varsity basketball.

Mussina compiled a 270-153 record with a 3.68 ERA pitching for the Yankees and Orioles from 1991-2008.
