Yankees officially sign top 2013 draftee Eric Jagielo, also ink 12 other selections
Ex-Notre Dame 3B signs for exact slot bonus of almost $1.84 million
Although the team did not release official terms, Baseball America insider Jim Callis reports that Jagielo’s signing bonus is $1,839,400 – which is the exact slot bonus for the No. 26 pick.
According to Yankees PR, the team has also signed 12 other draft picks as of Wednesday afternoon, 11 of them collegians like Jagielo: Murrieta Valley (CA) HS shortstop Tyler Wade (Rd. 4), Howard College (TX) RHP David Palladino (Rd. 5), Sacred Heart University shortstop John Murphy (Rd. 6), San Diego State RHP Philip Walby (12th), Oklahoma Christian University RHP Cale Coshow (Rd. 13), Sam Houston State LHP Caleb Smith (Rd. 14), Northwest Mississippi CC outfielder Jordan Barnes (Rd. 15), Kent State University second baseman Derek Toadvine (Rd. 22), Appalachian State University RHP Sam Agnew-Wieland (Rd. 24), Fresno State University catcher Trent Garrison (28th), Grayson County (TX) College shortstop Kevin Cornelius (Rd. 31) and Appalachian State University second baseman Hector Crespo (Rd. 34).
Among those unsigned, Yankees draft insider K. Levine-Flandrup reports that Rockwall (TX) HS outfielder Kendall Jackson (Rd. 11) has agreed to terms pending a physical, and the team's top two prep selections, LHP Ian Clarkin (Rd. 1, No. 33 overall) from San Diego’s Madison HS and Rancho Bernardo (CA) HS second baseman Gosuke Katoh (Rd. 2) will fly together from San Diego to Tampa on Monday and are expected to sign.
High school players cannot sign until they graduate, meaning Clarkin, who graduated Tuesday, just became eligible, while Katoh (who graduates Thursday) is almost there – but Katoh told a local reporter after being selected late last week that “if everything works out like it should with no road bumps, then I should be a Yankee by next week.”
The deadline for the Yankees to sign their other 29 draft selections is July 12 at 5 p.m. ET.
