Prior to Sunday's series finale against Tampa Bay, the New York Yankees designated outfielder Ben Francisco for assignment to make room on the 25-man roster for recently-claimed LHP David Huff.

Francisco, 31, was signed midway through Spring Training to be a right-handed hitting complement to an all-lefty outfield, but he hit just .114 with one home run and one RBI in 50 plate appearances. He played in 21 games total, but has not made an appearance since playing the entirety of the Yankees' 5-0 victory over Toronto on May 17.

His spot on the 25-man roster was taken by Huff, who was claimed off waivers from Cleveland on Saturday and reported to the team in Tampa Sunday morning; however, because LHP Francisco Rondon was designated for assignment on Saturday to open up a 40-man roster spot for Huff, the team does now have an open spot on the 40-man thanks to Francisco's departure.

With the move, the Yankees are carrying a 13-man pitching staff for the time being.
