The NFL Players Association is investigating New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith's relationship with Roc Nation Sports.

Roc Nation, the new sports representation agency founded by Jay-Z, announced they signed Smith earlier this week. Smith will be represented by Roc Nation agent Kim Miale.

At issue is Jay-Z's involvement in the recruitment process. The new "runner rule" prohibits agents from having others who aren't NFLPA certified agents recruit players -- Jay-Z is not yet a certified agent.

Smith posted a picture of Jay-Z and himself on Instagram during the recent recruitment process. The picture prompted the NFLPA to send a letter of inquiry to Miale and Roc Nation about Jay-Z's role in recruiting Smith.

Albert Breer of NFL.com first reported on the investigation.
