Report: Don Mattingly's job in jeopardy
The big-spending Dodgers are currently in last place in the National League West. A team with high expectations coming into the season, the Dodgers have struggled to build any momentum out of the gate.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal is reporting that Mattingly's dismissal is imminent. Rosenthal quoted a rival scout on Sunday after the Dodgers were swept by the Atlanta Braves over the weekend.
"Making the call -- Donnie Ballgame will get the axe tomorrow," the scout said.
When asked why the scout thought that, he replied, "Gut feeling. The way they've been losing."
Donnie Ballgame -- Mattingly's famous nickname -- was named the manager of the Dodgers in 2011 after three seasons with the franchise as a bench coach under manager Joe Torre. Mattingly had spent the prior four seasons as a bench coach with the New York Yankees, also serving under Torre.
When Torre left the Yankees after the 2007 season, Mattingly was in the running to become the Yankees' manager but the job ultimately went to Joe Girardi.
