The Detroit Tigers honored Mariano Rivera with a brief pre-game ceremony before Sunday's game at Comerica Park.

Tigers' manager Jim Leyland presented Rivera with a photo display of Rivera pitching at Comerica Park and the old Tiger Stadium. The display included dirt from the pitching mounds from each ballpark.

Rivera received a strong round of applause from the Tigers faithful who showed their appreciation for his stellar career and impact on the game of baseball.

The ceremony is sure to be the first of many for the Yankees' closer. But Rivera also has plans to meet with fans to say thank you during his farewell season. As reported by the Detroit Free Press, Rivera's first encounter came on Saturday in a meeting room adjacent to the Yankees' clubhouse. Rivera met with three long-time Tigers fans to say thank you, sign autographs and pose for pictures.

The weekend series against the Tigers is the Yankees' only trip to Detroit this season.
