NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Yankees have held a tribute to the victims of the Newtown school shootings and honored first responders to the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The names of the 20 children and six educators who died inside the Connecticut school on Dec. 14 scrolled on the video board in center field at Yankee Stadium during a moment of silence before New York's opener against Boston on Monday. The honor guard included members of Newtown police and firefighters.

Major League Baseball asked all teams to wear patches on their uniforms during openers to honor the dead and those affected by the shooting. Each patch includes the Newtown seal, a black memorial ribbon and 26 stars. comments
