Yankees designate LHP Clay Rapada for assignment, purchase contract of Lyle Overbay

The Yankees finalized their Opening Day 25-man roster on Sunday, making a trio of movews ahead of the 3 p.m. deadline. To fill the final two open roster spots, the Yankees recalled RHP Adam Warren from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes/Barre and selected the contract of first baseman Lyle Overbay, making room for him on the 40-man roster by designating injured LHP Clay Rapada for assignment.

With those moves made, the Yankees will carry the following roster into game No. 1 of 162:

PITCHERS: LHP Boone Logan, Andy Pettitte, CC Sabathia; RHP Joba Chamberlain, Cody Eppley, Shawn Kelley, Hiroki Kuroda, Ivan Nova, David Phelps, Mariano Rivera, David Robertson, Adam Warren

INFIELDERS: Robinson Cano, Travis Hafner (DH), Jayson Nix, Eduardo Nunez, Lyle Overbay, Kevin Youkilis

OUTFIELDERS: Brennan Boesch, Ben Francisco, Brett Gardner, Ichiro Suzuki, Vernon Wells

CATCHERS: Francisco Cervelli, Chris Stewart

In addition, the quartet of Phil Hughes, Curtis Granderson, Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira will begin the season on the 15-day disabled list, with LHP Cesar Cabral, RHP Michael Pineda, and third baseman Alex Rodriguez on the 60-day disabled list. comments
