CC Sabathia goes six innings, throws 92 pitches in Yankees Minor League outing
Sabathia threw 92 pitches (65 strikes) over six innings, allowing one run on eight hits and striking out six while walking just one. After the game, Sabathia talked to Meredith Marakovits during the YES broadcast of Yankees-Red Sox, and said that all was well.
“I felt good, had no pain, and threw 90 pitches,” Sabathia said. “Fastball command was something I wanted to work on, and it was a lot better today. … We’ll just keep working from there.”
Yankees brass wanted to avoid having their ace lefty face division rivals this spring, so with the Bombers facing the Red Sox at Steinbrenner Field Wednesday, Sabathia instead had the successful outing at Minor League camp.
Sabathia will likely make his final Grapefruit League start of the spring next Tuesday when the Yankees host the Astros at Steinbrenner Field, and is on pace to be on the mound Opening Day against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.
