Yankees reassign 10 to Minor League camp
Following Saturday’s Grapefruit League win over the Tigers, the Yankees reassigned nine to Minor League Camp, eight of whom were right handed pitchers: Corey Black, Matt Daley, Nick Goody (who did not pitch due to a sprained ankle suffered in an auto accident early in camp), Shane Greene, Bryan Mitchell, Zach Nuding, Mikey O’Brien, and Ryan Pope. All of them other than Goody had made at least one appearance in a spring game, with Daley, who missed all of 2012 with an injury, impressing in particular in three short outings.
First baseman Kyle Roller was also reassigned Saturday, and on Sunday, he was joined by fellow first baseman Greg Bird, who told Chad Jennings of the Westchester News-Journal and LoHud Yankees Blog that he has been dealing with a sore lat over the last few days; with those two now in Minor League Camp, it appears that Dan Johnson, Luke Murton, and Addison Maruszak will get the lion’s share of time at first base while Mark Teixeira is away during the World Baseball Classic.
