Melky Cabrera will get WS ring from Giants
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the Giants plan to award Cabrera a ring and full playoff financial share. Cabrera had said that he felt he deserved a ring, but wasn't sure if the Giants felt the same way.
"He's getting a ring. We have his ring size," Giants communication executive Staci Slaughter said. "I don't know where that's coming from."
Cabrera was suspended for 50 games on Aug. 15 after testing positive for PEDs. The Giants chose to keep Cabrera off their playoff roster en route to the franchise's second World Series championship in three years.
Cabrera led the National League with a .339 batting average but asked Major League Baseball and the Players Association to remove his name from consideration for the batting title. The award was given to Cabrera's former teammate, catcher Buster Posey, who finished with a .336 average.
Cabrera was the starting center fielder for the 2009 World Series champion New York Yankees. He was traded prior to the 2010 season to the Atlanta Braves for pitcher Javier Vázquez. Cabrera signed a two-year, $16 million dollar contract with the Toronto Blue Jays during the offseason.
