NBA commissioner David Stern says he expects the NBA to begin testing players for human growth hormone as early as next year. The NBA is sending a message about maintaining its relatively clean image regarding performance-enhancing drugs.

According to a report by the AP, Stern said, "It's not a commitment, not a promise. It's an expectation. It might slide a little bit, but I think we're well on our way." Stern praised the players' desire to keep the game clean and willingness to accept further testing.

PED allegations have hit the NFL and MLB in recent weeks. Baltimore Ravens LB Ray Lewis allegedly used deer antler spray to accelerate his recovery from a torn triceps. And numerous players have been linked to a Florida clinic that is currently under investigation by MLB.
