Yankees in the AFL: Final Stats

For the seven Yankees prospects who spent the last six weeks with the Scottsdale Scorpions, the autumn experience out west was definitely a fruitful one. Overall, the Scorpions finished in second place in the AFL East with a 15-16-1 record, landing 2 1/2 games behind Salt River in the AFL East -- but several Baby Bombers on the Scorpions roster certainly made their presences felt.
Outfielder Slade Heathcott was particularly impressive, ranking in the top 10 in the AFL in seven categories, including OPS (1.106, second), average (.388, fourth), and hits (26, seventh), while David Adams ranked in the top 10 in doubles, home runs, RBI, total bases and walks.
On the mound, Zach Nuding was one of just 18 pitchers to throw at least 20 innings in AFL play, and Mark Montgomery finished an overpowering 2012 by striking out 19 batters in just 10 1/3 innings pitched.
Add in Adams, Montgomery, and Austin Romine’s selections for the AFL Rising Stars Game and Mark Teixeira’s induction into the AFL Hall of Fame, and it was quite a successful fall for the Bombers. Below are the final stats for all seven Yankees in the Arizona Fall League:
