Jets' Ryan on poll: 'I finally beat Belichick!'
Earlier this week, a Sporting News poll of 103 NFL players named Ryan the most overrated head coach in the NFL, with his 35 votes more than doubling that of New England Patriots boss Bill Belichick, who placed second with 16 votes.
On Wednesday, Ryan had some fun with the media regarding the results, saying: “My first thought was I looked and saw who was second. Hey, I finally beat Belichick. I got him. I knew it would take time, but I finally got him.”
Ryan’s Jets have yet to overcome Belichick’s Patriots in the AFC standings in his first three years as Gang Green’s leader, although the Jets did defeat New England in the playoffs in 2010.
After his jocular moment, Ryan admitted the results didn’t bother him, but then made a bold statement about his 3-5 Jets’ playoff chances.
“At the end of the year, we'll see who's overrated,” he said.
