Three Yankees named AFL Rising Stars
The Rising Stars Game, which is the AFL’s equivalent of an All-Star Game, will feature 19 of MLB.com’s Top 100 Prospects among the 57 players selected. And, regardless of where they stand on any lists, everyone involved has good history on their side, as 28 of the players who appeared in last year’s Rising Stars Game accrued some MLB service time in 2012.
Through Wednesday, the trio of Baby Bombers playing in this year’s game have helped lead Scottsdale to an 11-8-1 record, leaving them just a half-game behind Rising Stars host Salt River for first place in the division.
Adams, who hit .306 with 23 doubles at Trenton this season, is hitting .224 with eight RBI in 13 AFL games this season, and Romine, who is still working his way back to 100 percent after missing most of 2012 with a back injury, is hitting .300 in 11 games through Wednesday.
Montgomery, who was an FSL All-Star at Tampa this summer and finished the season at Trenton, has a 1.08 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 8.1 AFL innings so far this year.
The Rising Stars Game will take place at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Saturday night, with first pitch set for 5:10 p.m. MST (7:10 p.m. ET).
