New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi formally addressed the media on Wednesday to look back at the peaks and valleys of the 2012 season. The Yankees overcame a myriad of injuries to win 95 games, capture the AL East title and advance to the American League Championship Series before losing four straight games to the Detroit Tigers.

“It’s obviously short of what we wanted to accomplish in Spring Training, but this club accomplished a lot of things,” Girardi said. “There were a lot of good things that happened this year, but I think we’re all disappointed we didn’t accomplish what we wanted.

“We’re all going to evaluate ourselves and figure out how to get better. There's a lot of players that we have to decide what to do with. But once spring starts, I believe we'll be a championship club."

Some other notes from Girardi's discussion:

• CC Sabathia hasn't seen Dr. Andrews yet, but Girardi expects to have him for Spring Training.

• On Mariano Rivera returning in 2013: "Watching how (Mariano) rehabbed, that would tell me Mo probably wants to play."

• Girardi expects all his coaches to return and for Alex Rodriguez to be his third baseman in 2013.

• Girardi on not feeling pressure entering the final year of his contract: "The pressure, as you see, I put on myself. That's probably not going to change whether it's the last year of my contract or not. I do my job and things take care of themselves."

• On Eduardo Nunez's role: "There is talent there. There is speed, There is excitement. There is ability to be, I believe, a good shortstop. There's a lot to offer. We're going to have to see how he fits in. There is talent there that we're going to try to bring out of him the best we can."
