Hamels scratched from start vs. Mets
Hamels is 14-6 with a 2.99 ERA this season, but his replacement has even better numbers in the Minors this season; Cloyd is a combined 15-1 with a 2.26 ERA in 26 starts between Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Double-A Reading in 2012, and on Tuesday was named International League's Most Valuable Pitcher.
Cloyd was scheduled to start for the IronPigs on Wednesday, but instead will make his Major League debut against Mets rookie Matt Harvey at Citizens Bank Park tonight. His appearance may be more than just a one-start fill-in, as the Phillies accommodated him on the 25-man roster by placing RHP Vance Worley on the 15-day disabled list. Worley, who is 6-9 with a 4.20 ERA in 23 starts this year, will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow sometime in the next 10 days, and will miss the remainder of 2012.
