For the second time this season, Steve Pearce is a member of the New York Yankees organization.

The team announced on Monday that they have acquired the 29-year-old outfielder/first baseman from the Houston Astros in exchange for cash considerations, marking the fourth change of address Pearce has gone through in 2012.

Pearce’s year began with the Minnesota Twins as a non-roster invitee to Spring Training. After being released on March 27, he signed a Minor League deal with the Yankees, and went on to hit .318 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

He was dealt from the Yankees to Baltimore on June 2, and proceeded to hit .254 with three homers and 14 RBI for the Orioles before being designated for assignment on July 21. The Astros claimed Pearce off waivers on July 28, and he hit .254 with eight RBI for Houston over the last four weeks.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have designated infielder Brandon Laird for assignment; per Yankees’ PR, a corresponding move on the 25-man roster will be made when Pearce reports to the team.
