Yankees activate Sabathia, DFA McDonald
The Yankees on Tuesday officially activated left-hander CC Sabathia from the disabled list. Sabathia returned to action after being sidelined for three weeks with a strained groin.
To make room for Sabathia on the roster, the Yankees designated outfielder Darnell McDonald for assignment. McDonald was selected off waivers from the Red Sox on July 4 specifically to face Boston’s trio of left-handers during the four-game series that concluded the first half of the season. He appeared in four games and went hitless in four at-bats.
