Sunday night's Twins-Rangers game at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington had an unexpected guest: Mother Nature.

During the fourth inning, the Rangers’ Roy Oswalt was about to pitch to Twins’ catcher Ryan Doumit when a bright string of lightning illuminated the sky and sent a frightening crash of thunder that had players and fans running for cover. (Video below)

Video from the game shows a number of players’ reactions: Twins base runner Josh Willingham fell to his knees, while Oswalt and Rangers catcher Mike Napoli darted for the dugout.

The Rangers ground crew immediately pulled the tarp over the field, facing strong winds during the process.

"That's the loudest noise I've ever heard. I thought Jesus was comin!," tweeted Twins centerfielder Denard Span.

Lightning struck north of the stadium but didn’t hit the facility, according to Rangers officials.

Although it was a scary scene, players can now look back and laugh.

"My heart stopped when I heard the thunder at the stadium. Glad no one heard me scream like a little girl too!! Lol.," Twins right fielder Ben Revere tweeted.

The weather caused a 46-minute delay, which added to the already lengthy 13-inning affair. In the end, the Rangers topped the Twins 4-3.
