On the day that fellow prospect Adam Warren is set to make his Major League debut, the Yankees have recalled pitcher David Phelps from Class-A Tampa.

Phelps, who made the team out of Spring Training in a long relief role, had been optioned to Tampa on June 14 to get his arm stretched back out to starting capacity, and pitched 5 1/3 innings in two starts at the Class-A level.

"I'm seriously thinking about having Phelps for the weekend," Yankees GM Brian Cashman had told Michael Kay on "The Michael Kay Show” Thursday, and that prophecy was fulfilled less than 24 hours later. Phelps arrived at Yankee Stadium ahead of Friday’s game with Chicago, and told reporters that he could throw 75 pitches in his next outing.

To make room for Phelps, the Yankees optioned RHP Ryota Igarashi back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Igarashi had been called up with Warren on Thursday when CC Sabathia and Andy Pettitte were placed on the disabled list, but did not appear in that night’s game.
