Yankees claim RHP Schwinden off waivers
Schwinden, 25, was designated for assignment by Cleveland on Wednesday when the Indians claimed Vinny Rottino off waivers from the Mets. The Yankees will be his fourth organization this year, and he is 4-7 with a 4.16 ERA in 13 overall starts at the Triple-A level for Buffalo (Mets), Las Vegas (Blue Jays), and Columbus (Indians).
The right-hander also has limited Major League experience, as he made his MLB debut with the Mets last season and had two stints with the team this spring as well. He is 0-3 with a 6.98 ERA in seven appearances (six starts) overall in the Majors.
To make room for Schwinden on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated pitcher Danny Farquhar for assignment. Farquhar had been claimed on waivers from Oakland earlier in the week and assigned to Double-A Trenton, but had yet to make an appearance.
