Orioles release 49-year-old Moyer
Moyer posted a 1.69 ERA in three starts for the Orioles’ Triple-A team in Norfolk. He then asked for and was granted his release from the organization after the team failed to promote him to the big-league level. The organization had hoped Moyer would make another start at the Triple-A level, but the lefty opted for free agency instead.
The 49-year-old Moyer made 10 starts for the Colorado Rockies in 2012. In addition to becoming the oldest starting pitcher to win a Major League game, the veteran Rockie registered a 5.70 ERA with 6.0 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 in 53 2/3 innings. The Orioles singed him to a minor league deal on June 6.
