Bernie Williams to manage World team
Yankees legend Bernie Williams will manage the World team in the upcoming All-Star Futures Game, announced Major League Baseball on Wednesday.
Williams, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, won four World Series Championships and was a four-time Gold Glove award winner during his 16 years with the Yankees. The Futures Game, however, will be the first time he has skippered a team of professional ballplayers.
Hall of Famer and former Kansas City Royals infielder George Brett will oppose Williams as the U.S. team’s manager. Brett, the only Royals player in the Hall of Fame, won the 1980 AL MVP award and made 13 All-Star appearances.
The game is scheduled for Sunday, July 8, at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Rosters for the Futures Game will be announced on Thursday.
