The Yankees have placed pitcher Freddy Garcia on the bereavement list and recalled Ryota Igarashi from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Garcia is returning home to Venezuela following the death of his grandfather, and can remain on the bereavement list for up to eight days.

Igarashi, a 33-year-old right-hander, was claimed on waivers from Toronto and assigned to Triple-A on May 29. The former Mets reliever threw 18 pitches in the Triple-A Yankees game on Wednesday night, but was expected to arrive in the Bronx in time for the first pitch of Thursday’s series finale with the Rays and be available out of the bullpen.
