TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter remained out of the lineup Tuesday due to a stiff left calf.

Jeter was not in the posted lineup for the game against Pittsburgh and was not on the travel roster for Wednesday's game with Tampa Bay at Port Charlotte.

New York manager Joe Girardi said the Yankees' captain also will miss Thursday night's game against Boston in Fort Myers.

"Today he said he didn't feel it," Girardi said. "There's no rush. Hopefully we'll get him in there Friday. I don't want it to be an issue."

The Yankees originally thought Jeter, who hasn't played since last Wednesday, could return to play the Pirates. Jeter spent time on the disabled list last season with a right calf injury.

Catcher Russell Martin and outfielder Nick Swisher-both sidelined by groin injuries-were in Tuesday's lineup. Second baseman Robinson Cano, hit in the hand by a pitched ball on Sunday, also was slated start.

Rotation candidate Freddy Garcia, hit on the right hand by a grounder last Wednesday, threw around 65 pitches during a bullpen session.

"No pain," Garcia said. "We'll see how it feels tomorrow. So far, so good."

The Yankees are looking at possibly having Garcia pitch in a game on Friday.

Reliever David Robertson, out because of a bruised right foot, made 30 pitches in his second bullpen session.

"No problems," Robertson said.

Girardi said Robertson will likely throw batting practice next. The right-hander is expected to be ready for opening day.

Andy Pettitte, who ended his brief retirement and agreed to a minor league contract last Friday, arrived in camp and threw to Martin during a bullpen session.
